How Our Fault Finding & Repair Process Works

1️⃣ Enquiry & Fault Description

Tell us what is happening – for example which circuits trip, when it started and any recent changes. Photos of your consumer unit and affected areas are helpful too.

2️⃣ Site Visit & Safety Checks

On arrival we make the installation safe, confirm which circuits are affected and carry out basic checks before starting detailed testing.

3️⃣ Testing & Fault Location

Using test instruments and a logical sequence of tests, we narrow down the fault – whether it is a damaged cable, faulty accessory, appliance issue or something else.

4️⃣ Repair Or Temporary Make-Safe

Where possible we repair the fault straight away. If further work is required, we will leave the installation in the safest condition and explain the options.

5️⃣ Report & Follow-Up

You will receive a summary of what we found, what we have done, and any recommendations for future remedial work or upgrades.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if my electrics keep tripping?

If a breaker or RCD keeps tripping, avoid repeatedly resetting it without understanding why. Unplug obvious appliances, note which circuits are affected and contact a qualified electrician to investigate.

Can you find intermittent faults that only happen sometimes?

Intermittent faults can be more challenging, but by gathering information about when they occur and carrying out tests under different conditions, we can usually narrow down the cause and recommend a solution.

Do you repair faults on the first visit?

Where parts and access allow, yes. Some issues can be repaired immediately (for example a damaged accessory or loose connection). More complex cable faults or consumer unit issues may need a follow-up visit and quote.

How much does fault finding cost?

We typically charge a call-out or initial diagnostic fee that covers travel, basic tests and the first period on site. If further time or materials are needed, we will explain the costs before continuing.

Is fault finding noisy or messy?

Most testing is quiet and non-destructive, using test equipment at the consumer unit and accessories. In rare cases we may need to lift boards or access hidden cables; we will always discuss this with you first.

Will my power be off while you work?

Some tests require circuits to be isolated temporarily, but we aim to keep disruption to a minimum and will tell you before we switch anything off.

Do I need an EICR as well as fault finding?

If you have ongoing issues or an older installation, a full EICR may be recommended to assess the wider condition of the wiring. We can advise whether a targeted fault-find or a full report is more appropriate for your situation.

Can you help if an appliance is causing the fault?

We can often identify whether an appliance is contributing to the problem and advise you accordingly. We do not repair appliances internally, but we can confirm if the fixed wiring is sound.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based on the South Coast and cover Portsmouth, Southampton and surrounding areas. For larger jobs we may be able to travel further by arrangement.

Do you offer emergency or out-of-hours fault finding?

Subject to availability we can offer urgent and out-of-hours attendance for serious faults or loss of power. Let us know how urgent the issue is when you contact us.

Are you qualified and insured?

Yes. Fault finding and repairs are carried out by qualified electricians with inspection & testing knowledge and appropriate public liability insurance, so you can be confident the work is done safely.
